5 questions you should ask to choose the correct Chromebook for you
Confused about which Chromebook to buy? Ask yourself these 5 key questions to pick the best Chromebook for your workflow and budget.
Chromebooks are fast, fun, and easy to use. Today, there are tons of different Chromebooks available in the market, ranging from budget-friendly models to high-end flagship configurations.
Choosing the best Chromebook can be tricky because everyone has their own computing requirements. Personally, among the Chromebooks I have used, I loved the Pixelbook Go for its simplicity, clean matte finish, ultimate tactile keyboard, Intel processor, and Google’s hardware build.
Before buying a Chromebook from Amazon, Best Buy, or your local store, here are 5 important questions you should ask yourself:
1. Is a Chromebook even the right fit for you?
Before buying a Chromebook, ask whether Chrome OS fits your daily workflow. The best way to test this is to spend a few days doing all your work strictly inside the Chrome Browser on your current Mac or PC. Try to find web alternatives or Android versions for the apps you use daily. If all your work happens in the browser or Android/Linux apps, a Chromebook is right for you.
2. What kind of form factor is correct for you?
Once you know you can live in the Chrome ecosystem, decide what form factor suits you best: a traditional clamshell laptop, a 2-in-1 convertible with a stylus, a detachable tablet, or a desktop Chromebox. If you work at a fixed desk, a Chromebox is great. If you are always on the move, a lightweight laptop or convertible is the smartest choice.
3. Do I need a premium quality Chromebook?
Chromebooks come in a wide variety of build qualities. Decide based on your budget whether you just need a basic plastic workhorse or a premium aluminum chassis with a backlit keyboard and high-resolution display. Better-engineered products cost a little more, but offer a much better daily experience.
4. What do you expect when you open the lid?
When you open your laptop, you spend hours staring at the screen and typing on the keyboard. Look for a clean, minimal chassis with a comfortable keyboard, a responsive glass trackpad, and a bright display that makes reading, writing, and watching media effortless.
5. What is the best hardware configuration for my usage?
Getting the right internal specs is essential. If you always have 50+ tabs open, edit photos, or create content, look for at least 8GB of RAM and an Intel Core or Ryzen processor. On the other hand, if you only check emails, browse the web, and stream videos, an entry-level processor with 4GB of RAM will serve you well.
Based on these 5 questions, you can easily narrow down the good, better, or best Chromebook for your needs!
